Opening Prayer:
This is how Jim and his wife prayed when he started the walk on October 5th, 2002:
Father,
In your Word, you told Abraham “Arise and walk the land, the length and the breadth of it; for I shall give it unto you.” I have heard the same words. In our great nation there are people, who do not believe that You exist. I believe as our founding fathers that we are one nation under God, therefore I am beginning this walk from sea to shinning sea to show the nation and the world that we are one nation under God and in God we trust.
I pray that every place where the soles of my feet shall tread upon shall return unto you, Lord. I pray for our country’s leaders, the President, Congress and the Supreme Court. Give them wisdom, Lord.
I pray for the state of Delaware and the people who dwell within. May revival come to the towns and villages of this state and spread throughout our nation.
I pray that every step that I take today shall be for Your glory and not my own. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

If my people who are called by my
name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their
wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and forgive their sin and heal their
land" - 2 Chronicles 7:14

Continuing Prayer Requests:
- Please pray as above for each state, city, and community that is being touched by Walk Across America.
- Take prayer walks around your own community and pray as above for your own state, cities, and communities.
- Pray for our government officials and the decisions they make on our behalf, that they may uphold Godly and moral principles to the benefit of our nation.
"I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone - for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness." (1 Timothy 2: 1-2, NIV)
- Pray for the citizens of our nation that they may elect Godly leaders who understand the scriptures and the wisdom that they hold for the blessing of all mankind.
- Pray for the legal preservation of the Pledge of Allegiance, the Ten Commandments, and other free expressions of religious thought, that the historical influence of God and scripture may never be censored from our nation's schools, press, public buildings or heritage.
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." (U.S. Constitution, Amendment I).
- Pray for Our Military. Let those who serve our country in the military not rely solely upon the strength of their weapons and intelligence, but first turn to You, Lord, the source of all wisdom and strength. Raise up men and women of faith among all ranks of the military and give them the opportunity to witness to their fellow soldiers.
- Pray for our unborn children, who are now perishing at a rate that far exceeds any military losses. Pray that the hearts of our lawmakers and court justices will be softened. Pray that the hearts of the American people will be burdened so that there will be such an outcry against abortion that the nation must repent.
- There are many single mothers in America.
Please pray for them. Raising a child today is difficult even if there is
a Christian father and mother as the head of the family.
- Pray for the ministry of One Nation Under God - Walk Across America, that more people may commit to pray for America, that more walkers will volunteer to cover the full length of the trail, that physical and financial needs will be met, that all who walk will be uplifted and protected on the journey, and that our prayers may be fervent and effective in impacting the United States of America.
